The Stables Restaurant Matakana

An empty shell of a building sat in the midst of the beautiful Matakana country. The ambition and inspiration of chef Daniel O'Donnell was to fill this empty space with creativity comfort and style. The Stables Restaurant and Bar began late 2012.

3 years on The Stables is a local go-to, a home away from home at the Matakana Country Park. It showcases the picturesque scenery of rural New Zealand offering an A la Carte menu with an attention to every detail. The Stables only use the best of local produce unique to the area including beef from Mahy Farms, free range chicken, fresh fish & seafood from Leigh and organic ice cream from OOB. Unique recipes over decades and stylised cooking methods make this menu compelling from entree to dessert. Not afraid of diversity, Daniel also offers dishes such a sashimi, wontons, & cerviche as well as semi traditional steak and fish cuisine on Thursdays and Fridays.

Compulsory to any kitchen, freshly baked bread, homemade desserts & gourmet pizza are always present. It also boasts the best local burgers in the country & a great menu for the kids. The bar offers an extensive range of local New Zealand and Australian wine to accompany any of the food options available. A large range of spirits, beers & ciders are also available as well as some unique cocktail recipes to try.
